Orthodontics
Orthodontics for a radiant smile Corrective dental and orthodontic treatment, for children, adolescents and adults
Orthodontic treatments are available for patients of all ages today. As a result of a broadening of the spectrum of dental diagnostics and therapy and enhancement of the available materials, orthodontic treatments are now possible during the mixed dentition phase (6 to 12 year-olds), for adolescents (13 to 18 year-olds) and for adults, without any age restrictions. Pronounced defective positioning of the jaw and teeth can undergo early treatment on patients as young as around 6 years old, in order to promote the positive development of the teeth.
In the second mixed dentition period beginning at around the age of 9, treatment focuses on the fitting of one- and two-piece removable treatment devices. When all the permanent teeth are in place at the age of 12 to 13, fixed treatment devices (brackets and arches) can be fitted.
The fixed brace enables each tooth to be moved individually as required. Improvements in the available materials mean that we are now able to move teeth with less force than was necessary just a few years ago. This enables teeth to be moved in a gentler, more biological manner. This gentler treatment is less awkward and more comfortable.
For adults, the focus is also primarily on fixed treatment devices. By means of the lingual technique it is possible to fit the brackets on the inner side of the teeth, which is not visible from outside.
An alternative involves treatment with virtually invisible, transparent thin plastic films. e.g. with Invisalign or Clear Aligners. Subject to a corresponding indication, good results are also attainable with these removable treatment devices.
We will be pleased to provide you with detailed advice on the appropriate treatment device for your individual needs and the available alternatives.
